With a dazzling 42-ball 97* innings, Shreyas Iyer led Punjab Kings to a resounding 11-run victory over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Punjab launched their campaign with a win, posting 243/5 in 20 overs after being put in to bat. Priyansh Arya's IPL debut was marked by a 23-ball 47, while Shashank Singh's 16-ball 44 cameo played a pivotal role in Punjab's substantial total. Gujarat's chase of 245 was foiled by a concerted bowling effort, as they were held to 232/5.

Shreyas Iyer, having secured the Indian Premier League (IPL) title with Kolkata Knight Riders last year before being released, will strive to achieve similar success with Punjab Kings. Gill, on the other hand, will aim to reverse Gujarat's fortunes after a lackluster campaign last year, which saw them finish eighth following successive final appearances in 2022 and 2023 under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. The batting will primarily depend on Gill and Jos Buttler, with additional support from Sherfane Rutherford, Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan, and all-rounders Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar, and Mahipal Lomror. Sai Kishore was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat Titans with 3/40 but the home team bowlers generally struggled to keep the run flow in check.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals secured the toss and elected to bowl first. LSG initiated their innings positively, posting 46 runs for the first wicket prior to debutant Vipraj claiming the wicket of Aiden Markram (15). Mitchell Marsh (72) then combined with Pooran to add 87 runs for the second wicket, before being dismissed by Mukesh Kumar. Kuldeep Yadav subsequently dismissed Rishabh Pant (0).

Pooran's introduction at No. 3 sparked a fierce assault from both ends. Marsh attained his half-century in 21 balls, whereas Pooran took 24, enabling LSG to cross the 100 mark in the ninth over. Pooran's aggression against spinners was particularly pronounced, as he accumulated 60 runs off 18 balls at a strike rate of 333.33. His 28-run over against Stubbs was a highlight, where he smashed four consecutive sixes and a four off his offspin. Meanwhile, Marsh displayed unyielding aggression against quicks, boasting a strike rate of 255.55.

Mitchell Starc secured two vital wickets in his last over, sending back Shahbaz Ahmed (9) and Ayush Badoni (0), to rein in LSG's innings. David Miller (27 not out) blasted some crucial boundaries late in the innings, lifting LSG to 209 for 8 at the close of 20 overs.

DC experienced a rapid loss of wickets as Jake Fraser-McGurk (1), Abhishek Porel (0), Sameer Rizvi (4), and Axar Patel (22) all returned to the pavilion within the powerplay. Furthermore, they lost Faf du Plessis (29) in the very next over, finding themselves reduced to 65 for 5.

Tristan Stubbs (34) attempted to revive DC's fortunes but ultimately lost his wicket in the 13th over after hitting two consecutive sixes. Vipraj Nigam (39) unexpectedly revitalized DC's prospects with swift hits but was dismissed by Rathi in the 17th over. Starc (2) was dismissed in the very next over as DC lost their eighth.

IPL 2025, SRH vs RR: The Sunrisers Hyderabad asserted their supremacy in T20 cricket by setting a new benchmark for the most 250-plus totals in the format on Sunday. In the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League, the Sunrisers initiated their campaign from the point where they had last year concluded.

This marked the fourth occasion on which SRH surpassed the 250-plus total in T20s, the highest by any side in the format. Prior to their match on Sunday, SRH was tied with Surrey for the most 250-plus totals in T20s.

 Well he hasn't made any decision till now. Recently CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan said that they are hopeful about his participation.

See if the Impact Player rule continues in IPL 2025, it will become easy for Dhoni. He has handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, this time Devon Conway was injured and got ruled out. But if Ruturaj will lead CSK, Conway can keep wickets.. we can see MSD as an impact player too. He can participate as a Pure Batsman too, however when he plays there's always a debate about his batting position.. that if he is batting well, why doesn't he bat higher. But Dhoni's from last 2 seasons has been that of a slogger only, he comes to bat after 15 overs.. so his role is clear and he fits in that role. In 2023, his strike rate was 182 and in 2024, his strike rate was 220.5 and so his role would be to start hitting straight away, he doesn't need to worry about anchoring the innings as captain Ruturaj has played that role perfectly.. Jadeja too can do that and so Dhoni can enjoy his game now. So if he plays IPL 2025, it is good for his fans and also for CSK.

             1 to 5 March 2023 

        Mayank Agarwal, the highest run-getter of the recently-concluded Ranji Trophy season, is set to lead Rest of India in the Irani Cup fixture against Madhya Pradesh starting on March 1 in Gwalior. The match was initially set to be played in Indore, but had to be shifted to Gwalior after the third India-Australia Test was allotted to the Holkar Stadium. The Irani Cup game will be the first first-class game in Gwalior in more than six years.

    Agarwal, who is looking to reclaim his Test spot after falling out of favour in June last year, is likely to be partnered by Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran. Abhimanyu is also looking to earn a breakthrough after having been part of the Test squad in Bangladesh in December. Prior to that, he was India A captain on the shadow tour to Bangladesh, where he hit two back-to-back hundreds.  

        Sudip Kumar Gharami, Yashasvi Jaiswal, B Indrajith and Yash Dhull are among the other top-order batters in the Rest of India squad. Gharami and Abhimanyu were sixth and seventh in the Ranji top-run-getters list with 803 and 798 runs respectively in Bengal's runners-up finish.

        Only two members of the title-winning Saurashtra team have been picked: wicketkeeper-opener Harvik Desai and left-arm seamer Chetan Sakariya. It's likely Desai will be the second stumper behind Uttar Pradesh's Upendra Yadav, who has already been part of several India A tours over the last two years. 

           The fast-bowling unit is well-rounded with Bengal's pace duo of Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep joining Sakariya and Delhi's Navdeep Saini in a four-man attack.

             Two of the season's top wicket-takers, Jalaj Saxena (Kerala allrounder) and Shams Mulani (Mumbai allrounder), find themselves missing the bus despite picking up 50 and 46 wickets respectively. The selection panel of SS Das, S Sharath, Salil Ankola and Subroto Bannerjee, instead, picked Uttar Pradesh left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar. Punjab legspinner Mayank Markande, too, was originally named in the squad, but was ruled out of the tournament after injuring his right index finger during training. Markande was replaced in the squad by allrounder Shams Mulani.

              Madhya Pradesh, the champions of the 2021-22 season, were initially slated to play their Irani Cup game at the start of the 2022-23 season. However, the match was later allotted to Saurashtra, the winners in 2019-20, as they were denied the opportunity to host the Irani Cup because of the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic a week after their maiden triumph in March 2020.

                   Madhya Pradesh, will be led by wicketkeeper-batter Himanshu Mantri in the absence of regular captain Aditya Shrivastava. Much of the core group that won the Ranji Trophy in June last year has been retained, with Rajat Patidar, Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, Shubham Sharma and Yash Dubey all in the mix.
