              With a dominant performance, the men in pink claimed their second successive win in Mullanpur. On the other hand, Punjab's successful run was halted, as they experienced their first defeat of IPL 2025.

                  Rajasthan Royals (RR) produced a commanding display, defeating the previously unbeaten Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 50 runs in the 18th match of IPL 2025 at Mullanpur on Saturday.

                The result had a significant impact on the points table, with RR moving up from ninth to seventh place, achieving their second win of the season and enhancing their net run rate. Meanwhile, PBKS suffered their first loss and fell out of the top three.

                  Batting first after losing the toss, Rajasthan Royals put on a batting clinic, racking up 205/4 in their 20 overs.

                    The innings commenced with Yashasvi Jaiswal's explosive 67 off 45 balls, ably supported by Sanju Samson's rapid-fire 38. However, the game-changer proved to be Riyan Parag, who delivered a breathtaking 43 not out off a mere 25 balls to round off the innings in style. The team's total received further impetus from Nitish Rana's 12 off 7 and Shimron Hetmyer's 20 off 12, ultimately resulting in a strong total for RR.

                Punjab's bowling attack faced a tough outing. Lockie Ferguson took two wickets but gave away 37 runs, while Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh picked up one wicket each.

              The inability to penetrate during the middle overs proved detrimental to PBKS.

               Punjab's innings never gained traction. A top-order collapse resulted in the loss of three wickets within the powerplay. 

Skipper Shreyas Iyer fell early, and despite Nehal Wadhera's gritty 62, the Kings were limited to 155/9 in their 20 overs. Glenn Maxwell's 30 provided a fleeting burst of momentum, but the required run rate persisted in climbing. Jofra Archer's 3/25 spearheaded the bowling effort, while spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana applied the brakes on the middle order. Sandeep Sharma's miserly spells and vital wickets ensured Rajasthan's triumph.  

              This victory revitalized RR's season, while Punjab will strive to swiftly recover and regain momentum in the tightly contested table.

Capitals dominate listless Super Kings for third consecutive win

            Unfortunately for the sell-out crowd at the MAC stadium and the scores watching elsewhere, Chennai Super Kings delivered one of the most lackluster performances in its history, suffering a 25-run defeat against Delhi Capitals in an IPL match.

                         Professional sports inherently encompass victory and defeat. Nevertheless, the competitive spirit displayed by participants is what sustains fan engagement, irrespective of the ultimate result.

              Disappointingly for the capacity crowd at the MAC stadium and the numerous viewers elsewhere, Chennai Super Kings delivered one of its most lackluster performances, succumbing to a 25-run defeat against Delhi Capitals in an IPL match on Saturday.

                The Capitals, choosing to bat, accumulated 183 for six, largely due to K.L. Rahul's calculated half-century (77, 51b, 6x4, 3x6).       

                The Men in Yellow's response was perplexing, as they displayed no fight nor effort to chase the target and succumbed to their third consecutive loss.

                 As witnessed throughout the season, the five-time champion stumbled in the PowerPlay, relinquishing three wickets. Mukesh Kumar and Mitchell Starc accounted for the wickets of Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad, respectively, while Vipraj Nigam's dismissal of Devon Conway left the host reeling at 41 for three in the sixth over.

                 By exploiting the spin-conducive nature of the red-soil surface, the visiting team effectively countered the five-time champion's strategy, utilizing spin to throttle the run rate. Vipraj (two for 27) and Kuldeep Yadav adroitly spun a web of spin around the CSK batters, thereby strangling their scoring efforts as the home team eked out a mere boundary between the seventh and 13th overs.

                  Vijay Shankar (69 n.o.) and MS Dhoni (30 n.o.) adopted a cautious approach, eschewing aggressive shots and effectively conceding before the final ball was bowled.

                  Rahul demonstrated earlier that a well-crafted game plan, precise timing, and strategic placement can yield impressive results, even in an era dominated by aggressive power hitting. The 32-year-old effectively neutralized Noor Ahmad, CSK's primary weapon, by utilizing the sweep shot to great effect, smashing the left-arm spinner for a six and two boundaries. 

                CSK spinners are likely to gain momentum, employing tactical risks like advancing down the track to launch Ravindra Jadeja down the ground, ultimately achieving a 33-ball half-century.

              Abhishek Porel, Axar Patel, and Tristan Stubbs delivered valuable support to Rahul with crucial cameos, facilitating their team's attainment of a competitive total and securing a third consecutive victory.

        Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants secured a 12-run victory over Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday. Chasing a target of 204 runs, Suryakumar Yadav emerged as the top-scorer with 67(43), while Digvesh proved to be the most successful bowler for Lucknow, conceding just 21 runs and claiming one wicket. 

         Hardik won the toss on a black-soil wicket and elected to field first, with Lucknow posting 203/8, thanks in part to half-centuries from Mitchell Marsh 60(31) and Aiden Markram 53(38).

          Avesh Khan produced a superb final over, keeping his cool after Hardik Pandya hit a six off the first ball. Avesh consistently nailed precise yorkers for the rest of the over. Mumbai has lost another match, their third in four games, which raises concerns about Hardik's captaincy. Lucknow's Rishabh Pant made limited impact with the bat but demonstrated smart tactical decisions throughout the evening. In the end, Lucknow secured the win.           It can be argued that Shardul Thakur's over proved decisive in the match's outcome, as he accurately targeted his mark and constrained Mumbai's scoring to a paltry five runs. Furthermore, that over featured a notable incident, with Tilak Varma opting to retire and Mitchell Santner entering the fray, Tilak having experienced a challenging day in terms of form.

Fifties from Venkatesh Iyer and Angkrish Raghuvanshi propelled Kolkata Knight Riders to a robust 200/6 before a concerted bowling effort defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 80 runs at the Eden Gardens on Thursday.

Kolkata Knight Riders' Venkatesh Iyer, Vaibhav Arora, and Varun Chakaravarthy delivered outstanding performances as the defending champions secured a convincing 80-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 match on Thursday. After being sent in to bat, Venkatesh Iyer (60 off 29) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (50 off 32) shouldered the bulk of the scoring responsibilities, while Ajinkya Rahane (38) and Rinku Singh (32) also made valuable contributions as KKR posted 200 for six. In response, SRH were bowled out for a mere 120 in 16.4 overs, with Heinrich Klaasen top-scoring with a 21-ball 33. Vaibhav Arora (3/29) made early inroads into the top-order, while Varun Chakaravarthy (3/22) wrapped up the tail.

  

KKR suffered early setbacks, losing openers Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock in quick succession, before captain Ajinkya Rahane and Raghuvanshi steadied the ship with a solid partnership. However, it was not until Iyer gained momentum after a slow start alongside Rinku that KKR truly gained traction in the game. The formidable total on a two-paced track ultimately proved insurmountable, exceeding initial expectations. KKR's seam bowling duo, Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana, delivered a devastating opening spell, dismissing SRH's top-order batsmen Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan cheaply within three overs. Thereafter, SRH struggled to regain ground, allowing KKR's bowlers to capitalize and secure a decisive victory with a substantial NRR boost.

Arora is the Player of the Match - keep myself prepared to come in as the impact sub. I assess what the pitch is doing from outside, whether there's swing, whether the ball is holding. Yorkers and cutters are important in the fifth-sixth over as the ball doesn't swing by then. We plan for different batters in our meetings depending on who the batter is, whether he is likely to give the charge.

Rahane : This game was really important for us. WInning by big margin was crucial. Even we wanted to bowl on this wicket. When we lost two early wickets, wanted to consolidate till 6 overs - play with intent but play cricketing shots. And then when we have wickets in hand, guys down the order can get as many runs as possible. Happy with the batting unit. Last two games were not upto the mark for us. But we learned a lot from our mistakes. This is a great example for us as a batting unit. Rinku and Venkatesh - those guys can play brilliant shots. Ramandeep was sitting in the dugout, Dre was sitting and Moeen was also ready. It was about playing normal till 15 overs and take it on. Initially we thought 170-180 in the surface would be good. Slower balls were gripping. We had three quality spinners. Moeen, unfortunately, couldn't bowl tonight. Sunny and Varun bowled really well. Credit goes to Vaibhav and Harshit as well.

Pat Cummins: Not a great time. I think this was gettable, pretty good wicket. Left too many in the field and then fell well short in the end. We need to be realistic, three games in a row it hasn’t come off for us. We need to maybe look back at whether we could have chosen better options. Our batters are best when they take the game on, but looking back maybe we could have taken different options. (On what went wrong) It was mainly our fielding, overall bowling wasn’t bad. We should have taken a few catches and stopped them a bit earlier. (On Adam Zampa not playing) We only bowled 3 overs of spin, the ball wasn’t gripping for us too. So opted to go without him. (On how he will deal with this loss) I will probably address it on whether we could have used different options, but don’t want to dwell too much on it. We go back to a venue we know so well now.

            Gujarat Titans secured a 36-run victory over Mumbai Indians, with Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj delivering standout performances. Mumbai Indians managed 160/6 in response to GT's 196/8, with Suryakumar Yadav being the sole bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming innings. This defeat marks Mumbai Indians' second loss of the season, following their earlier loss to Chennai Super Kings. They will next face Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground on Monday.

         R Sai Kishore: (On his stare-down with Pandya) While Pandya is a close friend, our on-field relationship is strictly competitive. We maintain a professional demeanor, avoiding personal conflicts. Due to the pitch's unpredictable nature, I adjusted my strategy. To contribute to my team's success, I adopted a defensive bowling approach, incorporating variation. The pitch's performance belied its appearance, and Pandya demonstrated exceptional skill by sweeping my well-delivered balls. When confronted with a well-executed shot, I recognize the opponent's skill. My decisions were instinctive, informed by Gill's insights, gained from playing alongside Surya for India. I'm eagerly anticipating this season, having acquired valuable knowledge and worked tirelessly.

              On Sunday (March 23, 2025), the 20-year-old delivered a brilliant spell (4-0-18-4) to set up a four-wicket win against Mumbai Indians.

        Hardik Pandya: Determining the precise point where our strategy went astray is challenging. We committed errors and failed to maintain a professional standard in the field, potentially surrendering 20-25 runs. The GT openers displayed a keen understanding of the powerplay, adopting a cautious approach and scoring runs efficiently, which put us at a disadvantage. While it's early in the season, our batters must assume responsibility and hopefully, they will rise to the challenge soon. In retrospect, I bowled too many balls, and the opposition exploited the variable bounce, creating difficulties for our batters. They countered my bowling strategy effectively.

                Prasidh Krishna adeptly varied his pace and length on a challenging surface, ultimately finishing with 2/18 to stifle MI's pursuit of 197. His performance was preceded by Mohammed Siraj's incisive opening spell, which enabled the Titans to gain early momentum in the chase. Siraj twice rattled the stumps during the PowerPlay, using scrambled-seam deliveries to breach Rohit Sharma's and Ryan Rickelton's defenses. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav kept MI's hopes alive with a series of boundaries, consistently targeting the leg-side fence with pulls, flicks, and sweeps to rein in the required rate.

       Both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have started their IPL 2025 journey on a high note.

  The comprehensive display by RCB at the Chepauk was a testament to their prowess, as they emerged victorious for the first time at the ground since 2008. The batting lineup, featuring Patidar, Salt, David, Padikkal and Jitesh, produced a dazzling performance. Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar subsequently asserted their dominance with the ball, taking control of the powerplay. A double-wicket over from Dayal, which resulted in the dismissals of Ravindra and Dube, effectively terminated CSK's chase. Dhoni's decision to bat at No. 9, below Ashwin, will likely be questioned, despite his unbeaten 30 off 16, which enabled him to become CSK's highest run-scorer in the IPL. RCB's resounding victories will reinforce their position at the top of the table and generate another NRR boost.

Ruturaj Gaikwad: "I still maintain that 170 was a competitive score on this wicket. Batting wasn't straightforward. Poor fielding proved costly for us. When you're chasing 170, you have some breathing room, but when you're chasing an extra 20 runs, you need to adopt a different approach in the powerplay, which didn't happen today. The pitch became slower and stickier. The new ball exhibited some sticking. Uncertain why that occurred. Rahul and I supported our shots, and sometimes that approach pays off, while other times it doesn't. However, when you have a target score in mind and are chasing an additional 20 runs, you always aim to stay ahead. That was my mindset. Although we didn't lose by a substantial margin, it was still 50 runs. Having three world-class spinners on the team presents a different scenario. You want new batters to face them. Unfortunately, that didn't transpire this time, as we dropped catches, and the opposition continued to score boundaries, sustaining their momentum until the final over. We face a lengthy flight to Guwahati, but we must arrive mentally prepared and pinpoint areas for improvement. I firmly believe that our fielding requires significant improvement, and we must bounce back stronger in that department."

Josh Hazlewood: "Feeling revitalized and refreshed. As a collective unit tonight, we demonstrated exceptional performance. We showed significant improvement from our previous game against KKR. We effectively utilized the conditions and performed admirably as a pace and spin unit. I believe that on this wicket, the fuller ball is easier to face due to the uneven bounce, so focusing on an 8-10m length is crucial. The energy was electric, and the effort from the fielding group was outstanding, with notable run-saving and catches. This exceptional fielding display undoubtedly boosts our morale as bowlers. Whenever one experiences an injury, it's natural to feel disheartened, but utilizing that time productively, especially in the gym, can be incredibly beneficial. I firmly believe that having a left-armer is vital, as every team in the competition possesses a left-arm quick, and his variations in pace were truly exceptional today, showcasing his class."

        Rajat Patidar, who is also the Player of the Match: "If I discuss this match, it was a formidable total on this surface because the ball was stopping a bit and it wasn't easy for batters to hit fours and sixes. [On winning in Chennai] It's always special playing in Chepauk due to the fans and their fervent support for their teams. [On his innings] I think it was very significant because we were targeting 200, which wouldn't be easy to chase. My goal was clear that as long as I was there, I would maximise every ball.
